We ate like kings and I even had a bottle to put in my sleeping bag to sleep warm at night. However, I would have liked our guides to take more time with us to discuss and check on our health every night. We knew at the last moment that the oxygen cylinder had not followed us to the top. Mr Joshua assured us that this should not have happened, but on the spot we could not communicate with him.For Safari, the tented-lodge accommodations are luxurious. I highly recommend it. Mr Joshua has masterfully organized everything. I have nothing wrong with the Safari except that we were aware of the vehicle changes at the last moment and it was worrying not to have the contact details of the new driver who would pick us up the next day. That said, there's always been a nice driver to pick me up as planned.In terms of organization and kindness, I give Mr. Joshua and Kilihighlands Explorers a 5/5.When it comes to security, I have to take a point off. All four members of my group summited.I felt super safe the entire time - Joshua was really mindful of how the group was acclimatizing and kept a pace that made sense for how we were feeling. I had a rough time on summit night when we hit 5k meters, but Joshua was an absolute champ at making sure I summited (and he was checking my symptoms regularly so I was confident he’d take me down if it were dangerous to continue). I don’t know that I would’ve made it without his encouragement (and occasional nudges to get off my butt and keep moving). We reached Uhuru Peak about 8 minutes before sunrise so I got amazing photos (well ok, Joshua had my phone at that point because my fingers were frozen solid so he deserves credit for the photos too), and I definitely would’ve taken another hour to get up there on my own and I would’ve missed the sunrise.Even before summit night he did “how are you feeling” check-ins with the whole group regularly so he could spot potential issues early. And he didn’t just take our word for it that all was well, he looked more closely for issues we might be hiding. He was also super clear about what was normal reaction to altitude and what might be a more serious warning sign. Your guide’s first and most important job on the mountain is to keep you, the crew, and themselves safe, and I absolutely trusted Joshua to do that.Plus, Joshua made the climb fun. He found the good photo spots and was always ready with a silly pose, which is effective at keeping your spirits up when it’s cold and wet. He always had a joke on hand when we needed it. At the same time, he was good at “reading the room” when we were all tired of small talk and wanted to just enjoy the scenery for a bit, and he didn’t force it. The group dynamic was great for the whole trip.He was also really approachable. I felt like I could ask him anything and he’d do his best to help or answer my questions. (Our group might have made an unreasonable number of requests for hot water, but somehow the crew made it happen.)One thing he mentioned during the climb was that he had experience in all the different roles on Kili - he’s been a porter, cook, summit porter, guide, worked rescues, etc. so he has a lot of perspective of what it takes to deliver a good experience for everyone, including treating the rest of the crew with respect.
